Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded in January 1988 by members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Providence, RI, who shared a vision to establish a Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod congregation in northern Rhode Island.
The first worship service was held on January 10, 1988, at the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Chapel in Greenville, attended by about 80 people, including many supporters from St. Paul’s.
Within a year, the congregation grew to over 100 members and was forced to find a larger worship facility. The congregation began worshiping at the Laurel Grange in Glocester, RI where we remained for the next 9 years.
In April 1998, Our Redeemer moved into its newly constructed church building in Smithfield, where it continues to worship today.
